Opening of Grands Montets

To celebrate the opening of the Grands Montets ski area, we're hosting Freeride Day:

a unique opportunity to get to grips with freeriding or to improve your practice, no matter your level.

We'll be on the mountain offering freeride and freetouring experiences. We’ll also host our Winter Prep workshop.

This workshop is an opportunity to learn from a group of experts who are passionate about winter sports, outdoor exploration and the importance of proper equipment and preparation. Our speakers, professional mountaineers and experienced athletes will share their experiences, tips and advice to help you make the most of your winter adventures. The event will take place on the slopes, in the Grands Montets ski area.

Would you like to try ski touring for the first time? Or maybe you’re already a skiing expert?

Our two-day masterclass offers you the opportunity to live an unforgettable experience with our athletes and mountain guides. We commence on Friday with a workshop on the use of basic safety equipment for mountaineering and best practices when checking weather and avalanche forecasts. We will also delve into the latest innovations in technical snow clothing and gear.

Saturday morning, you will take part in one of three freeride sessions, tailored to your experience level.

Movie Night

Join us for a jam-packed night of movie screenings, athlete talks, and book signing sessions in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The evening will kick off with the premiere of Franz Dengg’s latest movie shot in the Japanese Alps. Franz will be on hand to answer all your questions after the screening.

The North Face athlete Arianna Tricomi will then introduce her latest film What if…? And you’ll get the chance to watch the movie that tackles issues including climate change and our evermore fragile winters.

Finally, Downdays will present their latest book featuring The North Face athlete Dennis Ranalter.

The North Face Freeride & Safety Day

Join us for a day of all things avalanche safety and take part in our freeride workshops.

On this full-day experience, you’ll learn all about avalanche science and put your knowledge to the test during practical exercises.

We’ll also put on freeride training sessions where you’ll get the chance to learn how to recognise different avalanche situations and risk patterns.

On Saturday evening you’ll have the chance to chill out with food and drinks at a bar in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

During this experience, you’ll learn how to use an avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel in an avalanche course, and put your knowledge to the test during a rescue training session.

Lead The Climb
Mountain Clinics

Take your mountain skills to the next level with on-mountain days courtesy of Lead The Climb and led by their all-women team. With the iconic Chamonix Valley as a playground, these sessions are open to women of any experience level and will focus on improving ski touring, freeriding, ice climbing and mixed mountaineering skills.

Explore Day in La Flégère

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc,
France | 10th Feburary 2024

A mix of freetouring and freeriding, our Explore Day offers activities for different abilities.

You’ll have the opportunity to discover new places, to learn with the experts and to explore the mountains while following a serie of GPS points, halfway between a ski mountaineering race and an orienteering raid. For the freeriders, we offer workshops all day long, led by The North Face freeride athletes.

One of them is « Prepare for a day in the mountains » led by La Chamoniarde. Improve your knowledge of local mountain conditions during this two-hour class broadcasted live and led by the best in the field. The team from La Chamoniarde is a local group of mountain professionals, including meteorologists, guides, avalanche experts and geologists.

Also on the programme : product presentation, concerts and food stalls.

Winter Trail Cortina D'ampezzo

Cortina, Italy | 24.02.24

Come and experience the excitement of the Cortina Snow Run together with The North Face!

This night run, organized by the Italian Alpine Club section of Cortina d'Ampezzo, runs along the Olympic and World Cup Cortina 2021 ski slopes on two routes:

- trail route: 17 km with a positive elevation gain of 1,380 meters - start at 6 p.m. under the Cortina bell tower
- Short Trail route 9.5 km with 555 mt positive elevation gain
- start at 6:15 pm under the Cortina bell tower

To the 30 XPLR pass members who register first for the workshop, The North face will give away a bib number to participate in the Snow Run.

The workshop will be held at The North Face space inside the race Village. It will be dedicated to the latest new proposals for trail enthusiasts, led by the brand's product expert Alessandro Pegoraro. It will also be possible to pick up shoes from the new VECTIV™ Collection to test during the race.
